Thanks to ABC7 and BoingBoing for sharing the news that the oldest living aquarium fish in the world resides right here in San Francisco.

Methuselah, an Australian lungfish who’s at least 90 years old, lives at the California Academy of Sciences. In 1938, Methuselah arrived by boat from Queensland, Australia to her new home at San Francisco’s Steinhart Aquarium.

Methuselah took over the eldest title in 2017 when Granddad, a lungfish at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium, passed away at the age of 84.

You can read more at Methuselah from California Academy of Sciences biologist Allan Jan at SF Chronicle.
