After a two-year hiatus, Hatch Day is back so you can hopefully see a live hatching of a peregrine falcon

UC Berkeley’s annual Hatch Day returns on Friday, May 6, 2022 after a two-year hiatus due to the ongoing pandemic.

The celebration is to hopefully see the hatching of three peregrine falcon chicks atop UC Berkeley’s Campanile plus there will fun, educational activities set up on the south side of the Valley Life Sciences Building.

You can talk with falcon experts, draw some falcons, and hopefully, watch the chicks hatch from 9 am to 3 pm. There will be telescopes set up to give everyone a chance to try to spot the falcons. If you can’t make the event, you can watch a live Hatch Day Q&A on Youtube at 3pm which will be led by Cal Falcons ornithologists Sean Peterson and Lynn Schofield.

If past years are any indication, your best chance to catch a live hatching will be in the early morning, so arrive early to increase your odds. However, please note, that of course, Mother Nature has its own timeline, so it’s possible there may not be any hatchings born on “Hatch Day.”
