Dorothy Day House homeless shelter in Berkeley, CA announces the first “Homeless Resource Awareness Day” on Friday, May 10, 2024. The day will be celebrated with a free, outdoor concert with Vitamin Em, the Bay Area music collective, at the Downtown Berkeley BART Plaza from Noon to 2:00pm.
“Homeless Resource Awareness Day” is the idea of Dorothy Day House, the homeless shelter founded in 1992 and located at 1931 Center Street in Berkeley, CA.
“Homeless Resource Awareness Day” is a simple way to increase the visibility of information available to local businesses and residents in order to help them better assist the un-housed and a new way to provide guidance to those experiencing homelessness.
For “Homeless Resource Awareness Day,” Dorothy Day House has created custom step-by-step guides for the general public with basic information such as ‘who to call’, ‘what to do,’ and ‘how to help’ and has produced simple how-to brochures to distribute to the un-housed community that outline the key services Dorothy Day House and other community-based organizations provide to help people on their “Path Home.”
At the free, outdoor “Homeless Resource Awareness Day”concert on Friday, May 10, Dorothy Day House staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions and distribute information.
