Japanese-Style Sandwiches Pop Up at SF 7-Elevens
Thanks to The Chronicle for sharing the news that Japanese-style sandwiches have popped up in San Francisco.
You can find the popular Japanese konbini egg salad sando at San Francisco’s 7-Eleven at 527 Sutter St. Earlier this summer, 7-Eleven announced that they would be bringing fan-favorite items from Japan over to the States including chicken teriyaki rice balls, miso ramen and sweet chili crisp wings. 7-Eleven has not announced when or where these items would be popping up though. However, the sandwiches have also been spotted in a couple of 7-Elevens in Oakland too, and also in Southern California.
The US version is labeled as Simply Egg Salad Sandwich, but it’s not an exact dupe, unfortunately. It is made on soft milk bread like the original, but the Japanese version is crustless. Plus, many on Tik Tok are skeptical because the bread doesn’t appear to be nearly as fluffy and white as the Japanese version. Is it worth the hype? If you can find one, they sell for $5.29.
@sfchronicle A prized convenience store sandwich appears to have finally made its way from 7-Eleven in Japan to San Francisco. Earlier this summer, 7-Eleven revealed plans to introduce some of its popular Japanese snacks to the U.S., but didn’t disclose where or when. On Wednesday, however, a store in downtown San Francisco was seen featuring the new egg salad sandwiches on milk bread.
