Living History Tour: 1860s-1940s on Angel Island (July 26-27)
Reenactors from the Civil War thru WWII. Volunteers in period costumes open the 1860s Victorian house and the Civil War era Bake House for tours on Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay. The Victorian and Bake House have been lovingly restored. Costumed docents will be there Saturday & Sunday giving tours and sharing history of life on the Island and in the SF Bay Area.
- The event itself is free.
- There is a cost to ferry to Angel Island. Price depends on where you catch the ferry.
- Golden Gate Transit Ferry – $31 round trip ferry ride from SF Ferry Terminal – Clipper Card can be used for payment – Ticket prices include state park entrance fee.
- Angel Island Ferry – $18 round trip from Larkspur (does NOT take Clipper Card) – It’s unclear (to us, at least) if the ticket price includes the $3 state park entrance fee.
- It’s a 1-mile hike to Camp Reynolds from where the ferry lands. If you’d like to take the optional shuttle, there is a fee for the sit down Tram ride & Tour. Angel Island Trams for fees/schedules.

- Shuttle Pickup Times are 12:45PM and 3:00PM (with possible 5-10 minute variance)

Military History Timeline
Come out this weekend to the Military Timeline at Camp Reynolds! Volunteer docents will be dressed in an array of period attire. Learn about early American military history at Camp Reynolds (West Garrison) on the island.
Travel to Camp Reynolds: Please note that Camp Reynolds is approximately a 1-mile hike from where the ferry lands. The 1-mile hike has gradual hills and is mostly paved, but includes unpaved dirt trails.
About Angel Island State Park
In the middle of San Francisco Bay sits Angel Island State Park, offering spectacular views of the San Francisco skyline, the Marin Headlands and Mount Tamalpais. The island is also alive with history. Three thousand years ago the island was a fishing and hunting site for Coastal Miwok Indians. It was later a haven for Spanish explorer Juan de Ayala, a cattle ranch, and a U.S. Army post. From 1910 to 1940, the island processed thousands of immigrants. During World War II, Japanese and German POWs were held on the island, which was also used as a jumping-off point for American soldiers returning from the Pacific. In the ’50s and ’60s, the island was home to a Nike missile base. Today, there are two active Coast Guard stations – at Point Blunt and Point Stuart – on the island. Angel Island became a State Park in 1958.
