One of SF’s Coolest Thai Restaurants Has Closed
Khan Toke Thai House, a longtime Richmond District favorite, has permanently closed its doors. The Thai spot, operating since the 1970s, was known for its floor seating, temple-like interior, and expansive menu.
The restaurant was named one of the Chronicle’s “Best Classic Restaurants” in 2024 for its unique ambiance and memorable dining experience. Guests were always reminded to remove their shoes before stepping inside.
Owner Nuttarat Pornkanjanavong said the closure was a “difficult decision” due to the location and economic challenges. They plan to focus on serving a wider variety of foods in a new, more efficient space, though details on a reopening haven’t been shared yet.
Patrons who loved Khan Toke Thai House for decades will have to wait for the next chapter in the restaurant’s story.
