Another long-running San Francisco music venue is preparing to shut its doors. Thee Parkside, a Potrero Hill live music staple for roughly 25 years, announced this week that it will stop hosting live shows at the end of March and transition into a bar-only operation for a few months before closing entirely later this year. The building is slated to be redeveloped into housing.

Thee Parkside has been a fixture in San Francisco’s live music scene for about 25 years. It first opened as Thee Parkside in the early 2000s and has been hosting shows and community events for roughly a quarter-century.

Beyond live music, Thee Parkside was beloved for its annual Fourth of July block party, where arm wrestling and tricycle races transformed Wisconsin Street into a wildly chaotic neighborhood tradition.

The news lands amid a wave of closures impacting San Francisco’s arts and music communities. Nearby, another iconic Potrero Hill venue, Bottom of the Hill, has also announced plans to close later this year, adding to concerns about the future of independent live music spaces in the neighborhood.

With live music ending in March, the clock is officially ticking on one more San Francisco institution.
