Dust off your sequins and find your most vibrant mask—the rhythm of the streets is calling. On Tuesday, February 17, San Francisco’s Mission District will transform into a sprawling, rhythmic playground for the annual “Carnaval San Francisco Fat Tuesday Celebration”.
This isn’t just a party; it’s the official kickoff to the Carnaval season, and this year’s theme, “La Copa del Pueblo – The People’s Cup,” carries an extra spark of excitement. As the Bay Area prepares to host six World Cup matches later this year, Fat Tuesday serves as the ultimate warm-up, celebrating the global intersection of soccer, culture, and community.
From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., the Mission District will host a high-energy Carnaval-style crawl across more than 20 local venues. Expect a boisterous night out featuring live music & dance. Immerse yourself in the sounds of cumbia, salsa, rock and the thunderous energy of samba dancers.
Costumes, masks, and beads aren’t just welcomed—they’re encouraged!
The Venues: Catch performances at Arcana, Casements Bar, Kimbara Ritmo y Sabor, Make Out Room, and The Hall SF Bar & Billiards.
While the feathers and drums take center stage, the heart of the event is rooted in community resilience. Hosted by Cultura y Arte Nativa de las Américas (CANA), this celebration is a vital engine for the Mission’s small businesses.
