With SFUSD schools closed due to the ongoing labor situation, a couple of San Francisco museums are stepping up with free (or heavily discounted) daytime admission for students and families. In response to SFUSD school closures, the Exploratorium and the Asian Art Museum are helping to support families during this unexpected disruption.

Asian Art Museum

Offer: Free Admission for Youth + Guardians (Mon/Thu/Fri)

In response to SFUSD school closures, the Asian Art Museum is expanding free admission days to support families during this unexpected disruption.

For the duration of the closures, the museum will offer:

  • Free general admission for all visitors 18 years and younger
  • Free general admission for accompanying adult guardians
  • Available Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays
  • No reservations required. Simply check in at the admissions desk during the museum’s public hours
  • Note: The museum is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Exploratorium

Offer: Free Admission for Youth (Tue-Fri) + $5 Off Adult Tickets

The Exploratorium is also offering a major perk for SFUSD families during the strike.

During the strike, the museum is offering:

  • Free daytime admission for youth
  • $5 discount tickets for accompanying adults
  • Valid Tuesday through Friday
  • Offer applies during daylight hours
  • Be prepared to show an SFUSD student ID at the entrance or ticketing desk
  • Let staff know at the time of purchase that you are visiting due to the SFUSD strike

More Resources for SFUSD Families During Closures

Beyond museum options, SFUSD and the City have shared several resources for families during closures. Here are a few notable ones.

Free Food for Youth (18 and Under)

DCYF and community partners will provide free breakfast and/or lunch for youth ages 18 and under if SFUSD schools are closed.

Meals are first-come, first-served, and families may need to provide a child’s name, grade, and school.

Temporary Childcare for Kids Under 5

Temporary childcare is available for families with children under 5 enrolled in SFUSD TK or preschool during the strike.

Families can contact:

  • Children’s Council (415-343-3300)
  • Wu Yee Children’s Services (1-844-644-4300)

Libraries and Community Programs

SF Public Libraries remain open during regular hours. Some Rec and Park programs may offer extended care for children already enrolled.
