Oakland is rolling out the welcome mat for hometown Olympic champion Alysa Liu with a free community rally at Frank Ogawa Plaza on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

The celebration will honor Liu’s Olympic gold medal win and welcome the Oakland native back to the city that watched her rise from a young skating prodigy to the top of the world stage. Fans of all ages are invited to gather outside Oakland City Hall for a midday program where Liu will address the crowd as part of the festivities.

Doors open at 9 am, with the main program beginning at noon. Organizers recommend arriving early since the rally is expected to draw a large crowd eager to celebrate one of Oakland’s biggest sports success stories.

The event is free, but advance registration is required and limited to two tickets per person due to capacity.

Food trucks and beverage vendors will be on site, and the event is designed to be family friendly and accessible for the entire community.

If you’re hungry after, the rally takes place during Oakland Restaurant Week, so you can nab special dining deals at restaurants throughout downtown and uptown Oakland.
