SF’s Historic 118-Year-Old Music Venue Hits the Market
One of San Francisco’s oldest bars could soon have new owners. After more than two decades running the historic Hotel Utah Saloon, the owners have put the business up for sale with a $235,000 asking price.
Built in 1908, the SoMa institution has hosted generations of musicians and performers, with legends including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Tom Waits and Whoopi Goldberg taking its stage over the years. The owners say they’re hoping to find a buyer who will preserve the bar’s long-running live music tradition rather than change its character.
The sale includes the bar business only, not the hotel above it, which is owned separately. While the owners acknowledge the venue could close if the right buyer isn’t found, they say their goal is to keep the beloved neighborhood institution going for years to come.
