Upload.gif: Celebration of Animated GIFs | SF
Upload.gif is an exhibition and event series that celebrates the Animated GIF organized by New Hive and the Gray Area Foundation for the Arts.
Spanning 26 years, GIFs are now one of the oldest image formats on the web. An in-between medium that is lighter than a video and heavier than a photo, animated GIFs occupy a unique position as a fundamental part of the Internet, web art and pop culture.
You’re invited to a Cinema Speakeasy with an outdoor film screening, beer (probably free, but bring a few bucks just in case), and closing remarks.
Free, but an RSVP is required.
The featured film is the origami documentary Between the Folds. Origami may seem an unlikely medium for understanding and explaining the world, but around the globe, several fine artists and theoretical scientists are abandoning more conventional career paths to forge lives as modern-day paper folders. Through origami, these offbeat and provocative minds are reshaping ideas of creativity and revealing the relationship between art and science.
