“Outpost” Market Street Workshops, Discussions & Film Fest | Central Market
Building on the success of the Market Street Prototyping Festival held last spring, the Central Market Showcase will bring back a collection of projects for one month that tests ideas for improving San Francisco’s main thoroughfare.
Believing that artists and designers can be provocative agents in helping us to reimagine our cities, the Studio for Urban Projects has created Outpost as a way of helping us to claim Market Street in this crucial moment. It will be a place to enjoy a meal, talk with your neighbors, relax and give our city planners feedback that will shape the future of Market Street.

Imagination Station / Echolalia: Calling in a More Just and Vibrant World 20 Years from Now
Curated by Yerba Buena Center for the ArtsYBCA partners with local violence prevention and youth development organization United Playaz and artist Indira Allegra to create audiopoems with TL and SoMa residents. Together we will create a soundscape of desires for the future of Market Street. Echolalia is a participant of the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture national initiative to dispatch “Emissaries from the Future” to create pop-up Imagination Stations in public spaces nationwide. Through a range of creative activities, Emissaries will engage passersby in exercising social imagination, envisioning the world we wish to inhabit and—looking back from the future—celebrating the work we did to bring it into being. The resulting texts, images, videos, and more will all be uploaded to an online platform, yielding a crowd-sourced vision of the future, inspiring art, policy, and community action.
