This visually imaginative, over-the-top (intentionally so) vampire flick is a love letter of sorts to the darker side of San Francisco. There are no cable cars or crooked streets or postcard-pretty images here. Director Christopher Coppola takes us to some familiar places, yet they somehow seem so unfamiliar — empty and brooding and sinister. The effect is deliriously strange. But there’s another revelation here, too: Coppola’s son, Bailey (who plays vampire Natia’s love interest, Luke), is someone to watch. The kid has it. By David Lewis SF Chronicle
