The 44th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest returns to Drakes Beach at Point Reyes National Seashore on Saturday, August 29, 2026, inviting sandcastle artists of all ages to turn the beach into a temporary gallery of sandy masterpieces.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Kenneth C. Patrick Visitor Center, with judging starting at noon and prizes awarded at 3 p.m. The free, family-friendly contest features Children (14 and under), Family, and Adult categories, plus a People’s Choice award.

The only catch? Your masterpiece has to be made with materials found on Drakes Beach. Bring a picnic, spend the day at the beach, and see what creative sculptures emerge from the sand. Just build above the high-tide line and away from the cliffs, and leave plants, rocks, and gravel in place.

The PRNSA park store will also be open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with drinks, snacks, books, and gifts for sale. Admission is free.
