North Beach’s 1920s Bank Transforms Into Immersive Cuban Cocktail Bar

Long Weekend Havana converts a historic SF bank into a rotating globetrotting cocktail bar

North Beach has a new nightlife spot in the historic 1920s Italian American Bank at Columbus and Broadway. Future Bars (the folks behind Bourbon & Branch and Rickhouse) have transformed the space into Long Weekend, a globetrotting cocktail bar that changes destinations every nine months.

First stop is Havana. Think live Cuban music, immersive art, tropical cocktails and a little vacation energy without leaving North Beach.

The bar is divided into four themed spaces. The street level Barra Principal brings mojitos, daiquiris and live music curated by Havana composer Alejandro Del Valle. Climb the stairs to El Horizonte and La Vista for colorful visuals and a peek over the party below. The old bank vault downstairs is now La Boveda, a nightlife cave filled with street art and Cuban reggaeton.

Local art is a big part of the experience. The debut features work by legendary Cuban artist Reynerio Tamayo, with proceeds supporting his children’s art school in Havana.

The bar includes a nod to the building’s past: the original vault still has safe deposit boxes. They’re now part of the Keyholder Club, giving members a key, surprise perks and access to special events.

Long Weekend Havana is now open at 270 Columbus Ave.
