Event Details

Victor Wooten is a five-time Grammy award winning bass guitarist. He has been hailed as an innovator, composer, arranger, producer, author, teacher, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist. Known for his solo recordings and tours, and as a member of the Grammy-winning Béla Fleck and The Flecktones, he was voted Bassist of the Year by Bass Player Magazine three times, and is the only person to have won the award more than once.

His solo projects, such as the Grammy-nominated Yin-Yang album, continue to garner him accolades as both an instrumentalist and composer, and he has collaborated, recorded and performed with such artists as Branford Marsalis, Chick Corea, Dave Matthews, and Prince.

In 2008, Wooten surprised critics with The Music Lesson, a book that contains many of the lessons, ideas, and ways of thinking about music that have made him famous but in the form of a story about a struggling young musician who wanted music to be his life and wanted his life to be great.

In this How I Write conversation, attendees will have the unique opportunity to gain insights about both writing and making music by a master musician and an acclaimed writer. After the conversation, Victor Wooten will continue with a short talk and demonstration on the bass guitar.

This event is free and open to the public.
