Enjoy music and performances reflecting on the legacy of Kamehameha, as part of the De Young Museum’s Friday Nights and Cultural Encounters programs.
King Kamehameha I – remembered as a great warrior and monarch – established the kingdom of Hawai’i in 1810, uniting all the Hawaiian islands. Join members of the Bay Area Hawaiian community including Nā Lei Hulu I Ka Wēkiu, Na Leo Nahenahe and Adrienne Pao for a special evening in honor of King Kamehameha Day, celebrating the rise of Kamehameha and reflecting on his legacy.
Afterwards, enjoy some free hands-on art and make a “flower” lei in honor of King Kamehameha.
- King Kamehamena celebration: 7:15pm – 8pm
- Hands-on art making: 6:30pm – 8:30pm
