Event Details

The Great American Wiknic is an annual wiki-picnic held in cities across the United States on or around a common day every summer.

The 2014 Bay Area Wiknic comes to the Conservatory of Flowers at 2pm. Meet on lawns near the front steps. (Please note the location and time change – it was previously scheduled for Stern Grove at 11am but was moved to Golden Gate Park to be less crowded)

Meet other Wikipedia enthusiasts and grub on some communal food. It’s a potluck picnic, so let others know what you’ll be bringing (on Wikipedia of course). Look for balloons and Wikipedia signs and people wearing Wikipedia shirts.

Please note, the plan is tentative so please check the SF Wicnic Wiki before you head out.

A Bit of History

The first national Wiknic was held in June 2011, and 16 cities took part with Wiknics large and small. This mid-summer date (with a local raindate the following day) is generally the weekend before the U.S. Fourth of July holiday weekend.

The Wiknic concept was modeled on the Wikipedia 10 year anniversary celebrations and on the past success of Wiknics in New York City.

The idea of a Wiknic is to have something low-impact, with people bringing their own picnic food and perhaps items to share.
