Thanks to SFist for sharing the news that the largest animals on the planet have been seen swimming in Monterey Bay this week.
The whale watching tour boat company, Monterey Bay Whale Watch, has seen more than a dozen blue whales out on one recent tour, in addition to two blue whale calves, measuring up to 30 or 40 feet long. Adult blue whales can get up to 100 feet long, and can live up to 9o years old.
Blue Whales are not usually seen in the waters near here; they’ve only been spotted a few times over the last decade.
