Join us as we honor the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Philippine Sea with a Wardroom Speaker’s Event at 1 pm on June 22nd:
The USS Hornet at the Battle of the Philippine Sea
Presented by Russell Moore, author of “USS Hornet CV-12 Service in War and Peace”
The Battle of the Philippine Sea occurred as the United States military forces were invading the Marianas Islands. The Japanese knew they had to fight for these islands as losing them would bring American B-29 Superfortresses into range of the Japanese home islands.
The Japanese plan was a bold one and it included almost their entire fleet. Their plan didn’t work. Why not? What part did the USS Hornet CV-12 play in this pivotal battle of the Pacific War? Join us and find out!
This event is no extra charge with your normal museum admission.
