Epic Red Bull “Skyline” Skate Park Pop-Up atop SF’s Twin Peaks

Thanks to SF Gate for letting us know that San Francisco’s iconic Twin Peaks is about to get turned into a skaters paradise for one day.

On October 19, 2024 Red Bull is transforming this famous lookout 922 feet above the city into a temporary pop-up skate park for its “Skyline” competition, celebrating SF’s rich skateboarding history. Known for its panoramic views of the Bay Area, Twin Peaks will now also be the backdrop for some serious skate action.

Red Bull will start building the temporary skate park on Thursday, October 17th and will take over Twin Peaks Boulevard, incorporating rainbow ramps, guardrails, and even jumps over a dumpster. The competition will feature invited local and professional skaters, competing for cash prizes, and will be judged by renowned skaters Elissa Steamer and Chico Brenes—both with deep Bay Area roots.

Getting There

There’s no direct route to the top and parking will likely be full anywhere close to the peak. There’s no public buses that take you to the top, but the 37 Muni gets you close to the base on Crestline for you to take the “secret stairs” to get you to the top. Map.

Schedule

• 10am: Registration and Practice
• 12:30pm: Contest starts
  • 10 skater heats
  • 3 runs each
  • Skate in order downhill, one at a time
  • Best run is scored
• 2:30pm: Cash for Tricks
  • Obstacle(s) TBD
• Awards immediately following

• 1st: $1,000 – 2nd: $750 – 3rd: $500
• Cash for Tricks: $1,250
• Special Award 1: $500
• Special Award 2: $500
• Special Award 3: $500

The Course

Since Twin Peaks’ eastern lookout has been a favorite spot for skaters ever since part of the roadway was closed to cars in 2016, it’s a fitting stage for this event. The contest is also a nod to San Francisco’s role in shaping skate culture worldwide.

With stunning 360° views and a vibrant local skateboarding scene, this one-day-only transformation of Twin Peaks into a skater’s dream is set to draw plenty of attention from enthusiasts across the city.
