Downtown SF’s “Winter Wander-land” Returns for 2024
San Francisco announces the return of Winter Wander-land, a series of special events, attractions, and activations that last year alone drew more than 1.6 million people to Union Square during the holiday season.
From November through the end of December, a variety of businesses throughout the neighborhood will spread the holiday cheer with special promotions, food and drink specials, and exclusive shopping events. With exciting attractions, festive décor, and local flair, there’s something for everyone this season.
Here’s what to look forward to:
2024 Holiday Highlights
- Let’s Glow SF (December 6–15, 2024): Enjoy stunning holiday light shows as Downtown San Francisco comes alive after dark.
- Ornament Trail on Powell Street: Starting mid-November 2024, Powell Street transforms into a festive walk featuring larger-than-life ornaments crafted by local artists, complete with twinkling lights and live performances near the Cable Car turnaround.
- Winter Walk (December 13–22, 2024): Stockton Street will be closed off and filled with food trucks, a festive bar, and contemporary Arctic-themed décor. Think pop-up holiday fun with exciting performances and a cozy atmosphere. Two-block walk will be a holiday extravaganza and winter holiday plaza with food trucks, bar options, and visually captivating experiences featuring contemporary Arctic décor, and various exciting performances.
Classic Favorites
- Safeway Holiday Ice Rink: Open daily in Union Square through January 20, 2025 this beloved tradition invites skaters of all ages to glide under the city’s holiday lights.
- Macy’s Great Tree and Adorable Holiday Windows: The iconic Union Square tree is lit for the season, and from November 22 to December 31, 2024, Macy’s SPCA windows will feature rescue animals looking for their forever homes.
Local Shopping and Artisan Finds
- Shop DineSF Holiday Popup (December 6–7, 2024): Discover unique gifts from over 65 local makers and artisans at the San Francisco Center. A great way to shop small and support the community!
Community Traditions
- Bill Graham Menorah Lighting (December 25, 2024–January 2, 2025): Marking its 49th year, the Bill Graham Menorah will shine in Union Square to celebrate Chanukah with nightly lightings.
