In celebration of the publication of “The Adventures of Trans Educators: A Comic Book Issue”, Per Sia and Ali Blake will present a Drag Storytime-style reading from their comic “Socrates and Me” followed by a discussion and Q&A. Additional collaborators will share their contributions to the comic project and their visions for sustaining trans presence in education.
Join these writers / artists / educators in a community conversation about sustaining best practices for celebrating and preserving the Bay Area’s rich history of expansive expression and gender self-determination and what each of us can do to assist and champion trans educators, community spaces, and especially trans youth right here in Oakland. Bay Area based comic collaborators will be sharing their knowledge of the comic making process, along with providing materials for attendees to create their own art in response to the discussion.
