Here’s a great free weekend hike idea from SFGATE’s Grant Marek.
There may not be an odder stretch of shoreline in all of California.
You’ll learn as much on a beautiful Bay Area Tuesday spent at “TEPCO” beach, which is tiny, hard to find — hidden by high tides, and dwarfed by an adjacent Costco parking lot — and completely covered in literally thousands of pieces of broken ceramic dishware.
For more details on this hike including photos, the full backstory and one of the Best Benches in the Bay Area, check out the article Why this mysterious Bay Area beach is covered in thousands of broken ceramics from SFGATE
Back before there were stricter environmental regulations, TEPCO, or more formally, Technical Porcelain and Chinaware Co., discarded any and all dishware that was chipped or damaged on Point Isabel’s shoreline with tons of pink and blue shards, cup handles, pieces with numbers on them, whole damn plates.
Getting There:
TEPCO beach is at the southwesternmost point of Point Isabel Regional Shoreline, 2701 Isabel St., Richmond.
