About the Speakers
K. X. Song is a diaspora writer with roots in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Her debut young adult novel, An Echo in the City, won the Freeman Book Award and was named a Best Book of 2023 by the Financial Times, Kirkus Reviews, and the Chinese American Librarians Association. Her debut fantasy novel, The Night Ends With Fire, was an Indie Next Pick and an instant New York Times, USA Today, and #1 Sunday Times bestseller. The sequel, The Dragon Wakes with Thunder, comes out this August.
Julie Leong is a Chinese-Malaysian-American fantasy author who grew up across suburban New Jersey and Beijing, China and managed to feel equally out of place in both. She studied economics and political science at Yale University and was very briefly an investment banker before coming to her senses. As a writer and reader, she loves fantasy full of heart and humor, and stories grounded in characters and their relationships.
Taleen Voskuni is an award-winning writer who grew up in the Bay Area Armenian diaspora. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in English and currently lives in San Francisco, working in tech. Other than a newfound obsession with writing rom-coms, she spends her free time cultivating her kids, her garden, and her dark chocolate addiction. Her first novel, Sorry, Bro, received starred reviews from Kirkus and Booklist, was named an Amazon editor’s pick, and was favorably reviewed in The New York Times. Sorry, Bro is also winner of the 2023 Golden Poppy award for best romance. Lavash at First Sight is her second published novel.
Hayley Dennings grew up in the Bay Area. She holds a BA in English and French with a concentration in diversity and inclusion from Loyola Marymount University. Her first novel, This Ravenous Fate, became an instant New York Times and Indie bestseller. She currently works as an editorial and marketing associate for Fable. When Hayley is not working, she is spending time with her dogs, reading, painting, and baking.
