Daredevils Take on Epic 1,600-Foot Highline at Golden Gate Bridge
Over the weekend of September 5–7, 2025, a daring crew of highliners took on a 1,600-foot slackline suspended 75 feet above Kirby Cove, just west of the Golden Gate Bridge. This marked the longest coastal slackline in North America and only the second time it had been set up at this iconic spot.
The one-inch-wide webbing stretched between two rugged anchor points, giving spectators a rare glimpse of athletes tiptoeing above crashing surf. About two dozen walkers tried their luck over the three-day event, with only five crossing the full span and just two completing it without falling. For some, the experience came with dramatic natural scenery. Fog rolled through the cove, obscuring the line, while dolphins and seals appeared below, adding to the surreal, gravity-defying spectacle.
The line was rigged and taken down over roughly 16 hours, and there’s no set date yet for its next appearance. For now, the memory of a few brave highliners walking high above San Francisco Bay is what remains.
