Waymo is officially rolling out autonomous passenger rides to and from San Francisco International Airport.

As of January 29, 2026, SFO has approved Waymo’s fully driverless ride service as the final phase of a pilot program that launched in September 2025. The service begins with access for a select group of riders and will gradually expand to all Waymo users in the coming months.

For now, pickups and drop-offs are limited to the SFO Rental Car Center Level 1 curbside, which is accessible via a short AirTrain ride. Waymo says additional airport locations, including terminal curbside service, are planned for the future.

SFO is one of the busiest airports in the country, and airport access has long been one of the most requested features among Waymo riders. The expansion also builds on Waymo’s recently added freeway access across its 260 square mile Bay Area service area, making longer trips like airport rides faster and more efficient.

The SFO rollout marks the final phase of a three-part pilot program that started with supervised autonomous testing, moved to employee-only passenger rides, and now allows paid, for-hire service for eligible customers.

With airport rides now approved, Waymo adds a new transportation option for Bay Area travelers and visitors, further cementing San Francisco’s role as a testing ground for autonomous transit.
