Timothy Pflueger’s Iconic SF Art Deco Designs (Museum of SF)

About the Event

San Francisco native Timothy Pflueger designed some of the Bay Area’s most iconic structures of the Art Deco era, from movie palaces (the Castro Theatre and the Paramount in Oakland); to skyscrapers (the Telephone Building and 450 Sutter); and the I. Magnin flagship store. This talk will cover the highlights of Pflueger’s productive career, from his humble origins to his rise as a major San Francisco architect. The San Francisco Historical Society will make available copies of the book on Timothy Pfleuger’s work, Time and Tim Remembered, by Milton and John Pflueger.

About the Presenter

Therese Poletti is the author of Art Deco San Francisco, the Architecture of Timothy Pflueger, published by Princeton Architectural Press in 2008, with contemporary photography by Tom Paiva. Poletti is the preservation director of the Art Deco Society of California, a Bay Area non-profit, and is a tour guide with San Francisco City Guides. She is a freelance writer focused on architecture, history, true crime, local culture, and technology. She hopes to eventually finish her murder mystery, which takes place in San Francisco in 1929.
