St. Helena Fireworks Show Canceled Due to Vendor Emergency – July 4th Festivities Will Continue

The City of St. Helena regretfully announces the cancellation of the 2025 Fourth of July fireworks show following a fire at the warehouse of the City’s professional fireworks vendor, Devastating Pyrotechnics, located in rural Yolo County.

The fire, which broke out Tuesday evening, July 1, caused multiple explosions and spot fires in the Esparto area. The fire destroyed all the fireworks that were to be used in St. Helena and several other communities throughout Northern California. Earlier today it was confirmed that seven people remain unaccounted for after the explosions and fire.

“Devastating Pyrotechnics has been a trusted and reliable partner over the last few years,” said Director of Community Services Dave Jahns. “We know many members of their team and our hearts go out to them and their families in the wake of this tragic incident.”

Following the incident, City staff explored the possibility of hiring an alternative vendor and contacted several. However, after internal meetings, and preliminary discussions with potential vendors, it was determined that there was insufficient time to review St. Helena’s unique launch location and conduct necessary safety evaluations and walk-throughs. This determination was made by Acting City Manager/Director of Public Works Joe Leach, Fire Chief John Sorensen, and Director of Community Services Dave Jahns.

“This was a difficult decision, especially given how much the community looks forward to this event,” said Jahns. “In light of yesterday’s tragic incident and the limited time to bring on a new vendor, we had to prioritize the safety of our residents, visitors, and staff. We truly appreciate everyone’s understanding and support.”

The 2025 St. Helena Fireworks Show was planned after the generosity of more than 120 community members and businesses who collectively contributed nearly $40,000. The City will be contacting donors and issuing refund checks to all donors over the next few weeks.
