Event Details

These guys dig up rare or forgotten movies, often shorts and share them with audiences in their cozy screening room.

This time, Oddball Films are featuring a program of Steampunk-inspired shorts, including the mother of all: The Fabulous World of Jules Verne (the author who brought you 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.)

NOW SHOWING:

  • “The Fabulous World of Jules Verne” (1958) — an awe-inspiring and surreal vision of Verne’s novel “Face au drapeau” (“Facing the Flag”) in which Czech animator Karel Zeman imagines a past based on Verne’s novels.
  • Rare shorts by George Méliès including Baron Munchausen’s Dream (1911) and The Fairy Kingdom (1903)
  • A rip-roaring demonstration of steampunk firepower from the 1960s TV hit The Wild, Wild West.

PLUS, CLIPS FROM:

  • Stranger Than Science Fiction (1968) — From CBS’s 20th Century television series examining the history of imagined futures from the 1930s through 2001. The film features clips from Steampunk inspiration H.G. Wells’s film “War of the Worlds” (1953), “Things to Come” and “Metropolis”.

JUST SO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT WAS: Most of these films are quite scarce, despite scads of accolades and international awards.
