“Sunday Assembly” Silicon Valley Community Gathering | Mountain View

Live Better, Help Often, Wonder More” is the motto for Sunday Assembly Silicon Valley (SASV), an international community movement that celebrates life. The radically inclusive SASV is a secular and service nonprofit that celebrates life, welcomes all people and supports everyone fulfilling their potential.

It aims to help people “live better” with inspiring, thought-provoking and practical ideas that help people lead the lives they want; “help often” by encouraging community action and lives of purpose; and, “wonder more” with talks, singing as one, readings and games to connect with each other and world. Most of all, have fun, be nice and join in.

Monthly meetings feature live pop music, TED-style talks, inspirational stories, socializing over coffee and cake and activities for children. SASV focuses on purpose and action. It supports local nonprofits through hands-on help and donations. The organization offers “smoups,” small activity groups that gather around member interests, including outdoor activities, book reading, crafts, self-improvement and beer tasting. On site parking is free.

Kick off daylight saving time on March 8 with sleep expert Dr. Devin Prouty’s talk on “Take Back the Nap – What Your Sleep Debt is Costing You.”

According to the National Sleep Foundation, fifty-six percent of Americans don’t get enough daily sleep, impacting job performance, academic results, individual health, societal safety, and relationships.

Dr. Prouty will discuss how improved sleep can lead to living a better life. Dr. Prouty conducts sleep research through The Human Sleep Research Program at Stanford Research Institute International and with the National Consortium on Alcohol and Neurodevelopment in Adolescence. He is also a clinical psychologist at Granite Psychology.

The March assembly children’s activity is “Make a Motor,” using magnets and wire to learn about electricity and magnetism. The Lovely Hearts Club Band pop-song sing-a-long features guitarist Felix Bannon and the classic tunes “Wake Up Little Susie,” “Daydream Believer,” “Mr. Sandman,” and “Sweet Caroline.” Tickets for “Life of Brian,” our Spring Movie Night fundraiser will be available at a one-time special price for the SASV congregation. After the assembly, everyone is invited for coffee, tea and cookies.
