Summertime Streetside Function: Live Music & Art Swap | San Jose

This Summertime Streetside Function will be open to all types of media and subject matter and it’s taking place from 2 pm and into the night on Saturday, June 27, 2015.

As always, there will be live music, an artwork swap, a drawing table and snacks to share (feel free to bring something into the mix). They want everyone to be able to use this as an outlet for sharing their work and what they love to do.

Streetside Function will be taking place at a public, street side location near Downtown San Jose (address/cross streets to be announced closer to the event date). Since the event is taking place on the streets and in a public space, if you are going to drink, BYOB&B (bring your own booze and bag aka please be cutty with your alcohol).

The organizers’ hope is to use Streetside Function as a means for not only coming together to display the creativity and talent coming from the San Jose and surrounding area, but also use this as a way to appropriate public space in an artistic and atypical way. So often, we overlook aspects of the street environment as nothing more than merely utilitarian.

By utilizing facets of the public environment like a chain link fence and the sidewalk pavement to exhibit artwork, we are not only taking claim of common space, but are also re-appropriating the way in which we look at the function of our surrounding environment.
