About aQuarius Records
Since its beginnings in 1970, aQuarius has always been a vibrant and supportive hub for the Bay Area music community, champions of underground sounds and counter-culture music. Its original location, located next door to Harvey Milk’s camera shop in the Castro, was one of the first stores in the country to sell punk rock records, and was an important meeting place for the early San Francisco punk scene. Through its move to Noe Valley and finally to its current location in the Mission on Valencia street in the mid ’90s, aQuarius has served as a sanctuary for music lovers not only in San Francisco but across the globe, thanks to the store’s famous, biweekly “New Arrivals List” that goes out to thousands of subscribers worldwide. With a dedicated and passionate staff that writes extensive, opinionated reviews of all the albums it carries, aQuarius has become the go-to spot for weird, unique, obscure and esoteric music that often can’t be found anywhere else.
