This is a tragedy that ends with a baby. This is a play about America. Kids have a knack for absorbing cultural information and regurgitating it in ways that reveal people to themselves. When a child speaks everyone should listen.
In the fourth grade a person wrote a play called “Shattered: A Drama in Two Acts”. It tells the story of a Patriot family in Revolutionary War-era Philadelphia turned destitute in the face of colonial oppression and widespread political upheaval.
There are shotgun weddings and love triangles and almost everyone dies of tuberculosis or wounded pride. On July 11th they’ll read it in all its earnestness and angst and celebrate by letting their inner children out to play.
Whoever you were in the fourth grade, you’ve made it this far. Come hang out with them on the 11th. It just might be revolutionary.
Free but an RSVP is required.
