Instead of stuffy tee times or Tiger, spend this weekend in Golden Gate Park throwing discs at the 2011 San Francisco Safari Pro-Am Disc Golf Tournament.
Disc golf is played much like traditional golf, except instead of a ball and clubs, players use a flying disc, with the object of completing each hole in the fewest number of throws.
And though registration to participate in the event is closed, organizers of the event say that spectators are welcome and that watching the tournament will be like a less-formal gallery at a regular golf tournament. As long as you stay outside the flight paths and are relatively still and quiet while someone is throwing, it should be a fun sporting event for all.
Tournament Schedule
9:00am: Round 1 Begins (Pros at the Safari course, amateurs at the Marx Meadow course)
Lunch Break
TBD: Round 2 Begins (Pros at the Marx Meadow course, amateurs at the Safari course)
So instead of sinking bogeys, watch these professional and amateur disc golfers drive, sprint and throw around the meadows of Golden Gate Park for a full day of forehands without all the formalities.
