Discover the art of stenciling with acclaimed street artist Jeremy Novy at Voss Gallery—Saturday, May 31st, 1-3:30PM!

Unleash Your Inner Street Artist!

Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to be a stencil artist? Do you like sharp things and spray paint? Do you feel the need to reject societal norms and make art that everyone will see?

Stenciling is a tool used by activist groups and governments throughout history. Recently, it is considered an inexpensive tool by media and advertising firms that has a huge visual impact on the global community.

Join nationally recognized street artist Jeremy Novy for a Make & Take Stencil Workshop, where you’ll dive into the history, impact, and techniques of this dynamic art form.

This hands-on session will give you a brief (yet insightful) history of stenciling and other revolutionary acts of street art as seen in ancient and contemporary art. You will also gain a basic understanding of how to design, cut, and spray your very own stencil―which you will make and take home that day!

No prior experience needed—just bring your creativity!

JEREMY NOVY (b. 1979) is a California-based street artist known for his stencils of koi fish and efforts in support of gay activism. Novy’s stencil art is remarkably complex for its compositional simplicity. A champion of LGBTQ iconography, Novy depicts often underrepresented subjects to promote awareness and acceptance of multiplicity and modern identity. Novy stencils sociopolitical works in public spaces to democratize the process of viewing art and to beautify urban blight and unused spaces. His medium primarily consists of spray paint and a stencil which allows for speedy application and uniformity.

VOSS GALLERY is a women-owned art gallery in San Francisco’s Mission District established in 2019 by Ashley L. Voss. The gallery features a dynamic exhibition program of solo and thematically organized group shows and socially-conscious projects to benefit the greater community. New exhibitions are presented every three to four weeks and are curated with an emphasis on New Contemporary work by emerging and mid-career artists.
