Cozy Bars with a Fireplace in San Francisco

The Riptide
Sunset District | Often described as one of San Francisco’s most charming and cozy bars, with a rustic atmosphere and original knotty pine walls, it’s reminiscent of a small town lodge. When you’re out by Ocean Beach, escape Karl The Fog and cruise into The Riptide for a nightcap by the roaring fire.
The Grove
San Francisco | Known as “∫,” The Grove formerly had four locations across San Francisco, but now has just one location in Yerba Buena that has vibes of a two-story cozy ski lodge featuring floor-to-ceiling trees from the Grand Canyon, built-in booths, and two fireplaces – a stone fireplace on the main floor, and a smaller one in the upstairs Mezzanine space.

Spark Social
Mission Bay | Our Bay Area winters are not that chilly, so when the weather’s nice, head outside to Spark Social food truck park for a bite at one of the many food trucks. Be sure to grab a drink at the bar and then take up a chair by their four huge fire pits where you can roast some marshmallows over the open fire and make S’mores.
Zeki’s Bar
Nob Hill | Perched atop Nob Hill, climb the hill to the “friendliest bar in San Francisco.” Built just after the great San Francisco earthquake in 1909, the bar is a relic of the past, but its charm remains. With two brick fireplaces and dark wood interior, it’s a perfect winter retreat. Plus, they have trivia (Wednesdays at 8pm), board games and a pool table, so you’ll want to stay for another round. There also used to be free bagels during NFL Sundays (10 am to 1 pm), but we’re not sure if they’re still dishing those out in 2025.
The Fireside
Inner Sunset | With a name like “The Fireside,” you better have a fireplace in your bar and this neighborhood bar on Irving delivers with a fireplace along with a couple of comfy overstuffed leather couches and large windows that bring in a lot of light even on overcast days. The bar is dog-friendly in case you want to keep your pooches paws warm and toasty, too. Check out their spotlight on sf72.org

Fisch & Flore
Castro |
Fisch & Flore, located in the former Cafe Flore space at Noe and Market, is a sustainable seafood restaurant with two firepits and a modern glass wrap-around perimeter fence that serves as a windbreak for more comfortable outdoor seating. Unfortunately, Fisch & Flore has closed, but it’s set reopen as a vibrant cafe. We hope the firepits remain. Read more at Hoodline.Durty Nelly’s
Sunset | Durty Nelly’s brings all the warm Irish pub vibes, complete with a roaring fireplace and a great Guinness pour.
Swig
Union Square | Swig’s two-story interior shows off vaulted ceilings, historic 1906 brick, hardwood floors, and a cozy fireplace that makes it an easy place to settle in before the night picks up.
The Bitter End
Inner Richmond | The Bitter End has been a go-to Clement Street hangout for decades, serving up beers, pub food, pool tables, and a cozy fireplace that adds to the laid-back neighborhood feel.

Tenderloin | A restaurant and cocktail bar at the Phoenix Hotel, Chambers pairs a cozy fireplace with dark wood walls and a rock and roll meets mid century vibe. Catch it before it closes at the end of 2025.
Charmaine’s
Mid‑Market | Perched 120 feet above Market Street, Charmaine’s is a chic rooftop lounge with panoramic views, fire‑pit‑style fireplaces, inventive cocktails, and shareable bites from Chef Jason Fox.
Presidio Bowl
Presidio | This retro-cool bowling alley has a patio with fire pits, heat lamps, and sweeping views of the Main Parade Lawn and the Bay, making it a great spot for happy hour or dinner after a few strikes.
White Cap
Outer Sunset | A trendy, surfer-neighborhood cocktail bar just past the beach, White Cap serves rotating seasonal drinks and has a cozy back-room fireplace to warm up after a stroll along Ocean Beach.
