SF Extends “Stay at Home” Order “Indefinitely”

Despite city’s ICU capacity at 32%, SF extends stay-at-home order in advance of anticipated surge after holidays.

Thanks to ABC for letting us know that the city of San Francisco has extended the stay-at-home order “indefinitely” as December 31st.

The original stay-at-home order was supposed to end on January 7th, depending on how ICU capacity fares for the Bay Area and would be lifted by the state if regional ICU capacity rises above 15%.

The current reported Bay Area ICU capacity is 8.5% while San Francisco’s ICU capacity is 32%. The state technically has an ICU capacity of 0%.

Travel quarantine and local Stay Home orders extended
As cases surge and regional ICU bed availability continues to fall, San Francisco extends requirement that those traveling into San Francisco from outside of the Bay Area quarantine for 10 days and extends the local Stay Safer at Home order.

The earliest the State could lift its Regional Stay at Home order for the Bay Area is January 7. But due to ongoing regional ICU availability limitations and continuing increase of cases, San Francisco does not expect the Bay Area will meet the State’s thresholds for lifting the order by that date.

According to ABC, “San Francisco is extending its stay-at-home order and coronavirus travel quarantine rules indefinitely, the city announced Thursday.”

Under the current stay-at-home order, outdoor dining is banned along with gyms, movie theaters, museums, salons and barbershops.

In addition the 10-day travel quarantine for people traveling outside the Bay Area has been extended indefinitely.
