March 26 at 8pm, March 27 at 3pm & 7pm – Pay-What-You-Can starting at $5
After three digital rounds, RAWdance’s CONCEPT series is back in person, just in time to celebrate its 15th anniversary! Five Bay Area choreographers join RAWdance to share a fresh dose of dance tailored for intimate viewing in this celebrated, pay-what-you-can event. The CONCEPT series returns to the lavish Green Room in the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center – one of the most magnificent venues in the city.
Since 2007, the CONCEPT series has regularly offered up one of the best samplings of professional Bay Area dance in a casual, approachable atmosphere. SF Weekly has described the series as “a rare bird hiding in San Francisco’s cultural aviary. …[W]atching dance in such a climate changes your perception of the art.” Dance writer Heather Desaulniers calls the series “an appetizer menu for modern dance; a fun, casual and intimate program featuring an assortment of San Francisco contemporary performance.”
This round marks 15 years of the well-loved salon – 134 guest artists over 82 performances at 3 different venues and online! At every CONCEPT series, choreographers are encouraged to share work at any point along the creation process, from revisiting repertory to testing out material fresh from the studio, offering new perspectives into the artistic process. RAWdance’s Co-Artistic Directors Ryan T. Smith, Wendy Rein, and Katerina Wong play host, dishing up lively commentary between pieces.
For this round, RAWdance will be joined by The Major S, Corey Michael Brady, Emily Hansel, Sawako Gannon, and Molly Rose-Williams. Please visit rawdance.org to review the Green Room’s COVID safety policies before reserving your ticket. Seating capacity will be limited in order to allow for increased distance between audience members. Advanced ticket purchase is recommended. Walk-ups will be available until capacity is reached.
