45-ft Statue of Giant Naked Woman Coming to Union Square
San Francisco’s Union Square Park is set to host a remarkable piece of public art that celebrates feminine strength and empowerment. Marco Cochrane’s R-Evolution, a stunning 45-foot-tall sculpture, will be on display from February 6 through the end of May 2025. Originally created for Burning Man in 2015 as part of a triptych, R-Evolution’s presence in Union Square is a testament to the city’s commitment to showcasing transformative and thought-provoking art.
The sculpture, fabricated from steel rod and tubing and covered with stainless steel mesh, offers a breathtaking interplay of light and form. At night, the piece will be illuminated, casting a radiant glow that enhances its powerful presence. Adding to its allure is a kinetic feature—the sculpture “breathes” for one hour each day, creating a meditative and deeply engaging experience for viewers.
R-Evolution’s temporary installation is part of a broader initiative to activate Union Square Park as a vibrant cultural destination. By bringing this monumental artwork to the heart of San Francisco, the district aims to inspire appreciation for public art while attracting locals and visitors to explore and enjoy the iconic space. The project is made possible through a partnership with San Francisco Recreation and Parks and generous funding from The Sijbrandij Foundation.
The unveiling event on February 6 promises to be an exciting celebration, featuring Burning Man-inspired music, live DJ performances, and a variety of food and drink options. The festivities will culminate in a march led by a lively band, guiding attendees to an exclusive after-party as part of Downtown First Thursdays. This free event invites the community to gather, connect, and celebrate the arts in an unforgettable way.
R-Evolution’s installation underscores San Francisco’s reputation as a hub for creativity and self-expression. It reflects the city’s diverse cultural identity and its commitment to fostering dialogue and connection through public art. By bringing this awe-inspiring sculpture to Union Square, San Francisco continues to highlight the transformative power of art in public spaces, strengthening civic pride and enriching the community’s shared experience.
