Schedule of Events

Noon to 2 pm – Film Screening: “Slavery by Another Name,” a film that challenges the common assumption that slavery ended with the Emancipation Proclamation. Location: ROMC Library, 1650 Holloway Ave.

5-8 pm – Interactive Art Project: “What’s Your Cause?” Visitors are encouraged to design buttons that reflect their personal, cultural and/or political beliefs and to wear these handmade campaign buttons for the duration of the reception as a way to publicly advocate for a community, movement or belief. “What’s Your Cause?” celebrates the ways which people identify and thereby represent themselves in a larger community and encourages appreciation of difference. Location: Art Gallery.

5:15-7:30 pm – Live Music: The Pull, DJ Pocho Boogie, and more TBD. Genre: Afro-Cuban, Jazz and Afro-Hip-Hop and Blues. Music presented by The Depot and Associated Students Inc. Location: Art Gallery.

6-8 pm – Open Discussion: Elaine Brown. Former Black Panther Party Chairwoman responds to film, “Slavery by Another Name,” and her experiences with the Black Panther Movement. The discussion is part of the “Created Equals Series” created and hosted by the Richard Oakes Multicultural Center (ROMC) and is free and open to the public and tailored towards the San Francisco State University community.
