The 2727 Artist Co-op announces their upcoming group exhibition, “Timelapse: Works in Progress”

Berkeley, California – the 2727 Artist Co-op is pleased to announce the opening of their third group exhibition of the year, “Timelapse: Works in Progress,” envisioned as a “living” exhibit that will invite gallery visitors a view into the artistic process in real time through both observation and participation. The exhibition will run from Friday, August 7th to Sunday, August 16th, with an opening reception on Friday, August 7th from 6:00-8:00 pm at 2727 Community Art Center, 2727 California Street, Berkeley, CA.  More information: https://www.2727.today/artistcoop

Comprised of primarily unfinished artworks, Timelapse: Works in Progress will act not only as a window into the artistic process, but also as an opportunity for participating member / artists to engage their wider community of both audience and fellow artists in novel ways–from giving insight into their practice in demonstrating their workflow, eliciting reaction directly from the audience, to offering visitors the opportunity to participate in developing unfinished artworks together in community.

Participating artists include Xinchen Li, who will show “an interactive, site-specific installation that invites the audience directly into the creation process. . . I want to pull back the curtain on how [I create] these massive, labor-intensive structures that play with structure and fluidity. . . during the event, the gallery audience will be invited to co-create the final artwork. . .Together, the community’s collective mark-making will finish the piece, turning a solitary studio practice into a shared, living, tactile experience that evolves throughout the run of the show.”

This exhibition invites anyone interested in the artistic process to view and engage with the real-life artworks as they grow and change, guided by both the artists and the audience. Member / artists seek in this show to expand the boundaries of what it means to be “gallery-ready” and asks us to consider how and when the artist knows when an artwork is finished.

Events during the show include:

Ink painting workshop | Co-op artist Mary Coffield will demonstrate acrylic ink painting technique. Participants will be encouraged to make their own piece. Materials will be provided. A $10 material fee donation. Open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Saturday August 8 2-4pm, 2727 California Street. Berkeley

Reverse Glass painting Workshop | Join coop gallery artist LR Altman for a fun and engaging two hour reverse glass painting workshop. Use the transparency of glass, drawing, and painting, to conceal and reveal. Suitable for all levels of experience and children who can safely handle glass and focus for two hours. Suggested donations $20-$35. No one turned away for lack of funds. Wednesday August 12th 4 – 6pm, 2727 California Street. Berkeley

About the 2727 Artist Co-op:

We are a collective of local artists exhibiting regularly at our space in Berkeley, CA. Formerly a corner store, the beloved neighborhood staple has transformed into a pillar of the arts in the community. The public regularly contributes to the space, exhibiting everything from visual to performing arts. Member artists regularly host exhibitions, displaying a diverse body of work that approaches the world from a number of perspectives. The space hosts free and low cost workshops, helping other artists refine their crafts and engaging  the local community in art-making.  Emphasis is on emerging artists, local artists, and artists from under-represented groups who have had less opportunity to show their work. The 2727 Artist Co-op is committed to promoting innovative and thought-provoking art that fosters a deeper understanding of the world around us.
